Meeting Abstract
Agile methods emphasize flexibility and the ability to respond to change. But interaction with the rest of the organization requires some advanced planning. Particularly, Quality Assurance (QA) needs to assure the changes won’t negatively impact existing functionality. A release plan that reads, “We’ll get to it when we get to it,” won’t make that possible. As a Certified ScrumMaster, this outstanding speaker will be able to discuss Agile for a variety of project types. In this session, Bill will walk through release planning sufficient to accommodate the QA needs, and discuss strategies to achieve QA’s test execution goals during the development and integration phases. Attendees will be able to interact with Bill to get their questions answered to be able to apply the next day at work. Some of the topics to be discussed are as follows:
1) A brief overview of Agile and Scrum
- The Process Model
- Roles
- Artifacts
- Ceremonies
2) Estimating the project backlog
- Definition of Done (DoD)
- Reference Story
- Story Points
- Sprint Velocity
- The Release Plan
3) Testing
- Story Testing
- Scrum Project Testing
Integration Testing on Multiple Projects
Speaker Biography
Bill Rinko-Gay is a Certified ScrumMaster, PMP, and CSQA. Bill has been involved in Software Test and Quality Assurance since 1982 when he began testing command and control software for orbiting satellites for the US Air Force. Frustrated with the lack of structure in the testing program Bill began working on a more comprehensive approach to software quality. Since leaving the DOD Bill has worked on projects in defense, computer manufacturing, publishing, computer security, financial, state and local governments. With experience in development teams ranging in size from three to sixty and in the middle of his third decade in the field, Bill is still working on techniques to allow teams to work well. His most recent work is in Agile methodologies, and the role of Software Quality Assurance in these methodologies.
